Winter Burke grew up on a farm surrounded by animals and classic films that sparked her love for suspense, story, and the joy of character (Jimmy Stewart has a special place in her heart). Today, she lives on a farm with her husband, three children, and a gaggle of beloved Sebastopol geese, who often waddle into her work.

A lifelong storyteller, Winter writes lyrical picture books by day and novels by night, delighting in every form of story — from silly to soulful. She has published eleven Tiny Mysteries, interactive detective adventures for kids that have sold across six continents (if you know someone in Antarctica, she’s aiming for seven!). Her picture books celebrate resilience, joy, and belonging, inspired by the comfort she found as a child in the pages of her favorite stories.

For Winter, writing is the whole shebang— a way to give children the same gifts she cherished growing up: laughter, wonder, safety, and the sense of being deeply loved.
